Washoe County

"Washoe County, in Nevada's western part, population, 3,091, lies north of Ormsby County (now Carson City) along the base of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, and is one of the most important agricultural counties of the state. Several mining districts have been located, and coal and galena have been found. Extensive forests of pine cover the east range of the Sierra Nevada, which crosses this county, and yield valuable lumber. Hot springs are abundant in several localities. This county includes the famous Comstock Vein, the most valuable deposit of silver ores thus far found in our country. It runs nearly in the direction of the magnetic meridian along the eastern slope of the Mt. Davidson Range. The county seat is Washoe City. Agriculture productions in 1870: Wheat, 2,874 bushel; rye, 175 bushel; Indian-corn, 820 bushel; oats, 8,825 bushel; Irish potatoes, 17,570 bushel; butter, 9,690 lbs.; hay, 5,399 tons. Cash value of farms, $221,800. Total, estimated, value of all farm productions, including additions to stock, etc., $152,173. Value of manufactures, $828,630."

Reno

Reno, post-village and the county seat of Washoe County, Nevada, on Truckee River, and the Central Pacific Rail Road, 34 miles east of Truckee and 11 miles east of the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Supply point for the mining regions north and south of it, and center of a large manufacturing interest. Population, 1,035. Two newspapers.

Verdi

Verdi, post-village, in Washoe County, Nevada, on the Central Pacific Rail Road, 11 miles west by south of Reno. Population, about 150.

Washoe City

Washoe City, post-village, and the county seat of Washoe County, Nevada, 15 miles south of Reno. Population, 552.
