Welcome to White Pine County!
White Pine is located in eastern Nevada. As of the 2010 census the population was 10,030. The county seat is Ely. The name "White Pine" is another name for the Limber Pine, a common tree in the county's mountains.1
The Pony Express had numerous stations in this county, including Antelope Springs, Butte Station (aka Bates, Thieves Delight, Robbers' Roost), Egan Canyon (aka Gold Canyon), Eight-Mile Station (Prairie Gate, Spring Station), Fort Ruby (aka Camp Ruby, Hobson), Jacob's Well (Ivirs City), Mountain Spring, Ruby Valley Station (Ruby station, Overland Ranch), Schellbourne (Fort Schellborne, and Schell Creek Station.2
The county was created in 1869 from Lander County with Hamilton as the first county seat from 1869. In 1887 the seat of county government moved to Ely.3 - county website
Places in White Pine include Baker, Cherry Creek, Currie, Duckwater, Ely, Lages Station, Lund, McGill, Preston and Ruth.
Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest is in this county as is The Great Basin National Park. The Goshute Indian Reservation is also in White Pine.
